It’s another Tuesday and we bring you your favourite social media segment on this portal… The #TerrificGuilder

Our terrific guilder for the week is mostly known by many as the multi-talented  lady. For those who don’t, stay glued as you meet the Jack-ress (pun-intended) of all trade, yet perfect in all. (Oh she is not like our usual Jack of all trades but master of none).

Miss Lawrencia Naa Adjeley Adjei is a level 400 BSc. Administration student, in the University of Ghana Business School,  majoring in Accounting. She is a resident of the Volta Hall and a member of the NUPS-G Technical Team, where she heads the team as the Technical Director.

“At school what I basically do is to help provide sound during any of the Union’s gatherings,” she replied when asked about the role of the Technical Director. In addition she said, “I love to learn a little about IT when I get the chance to and that triggered my decision to join the Union’s technical team.”

Lawrencia is a devout sportswoman of the University and part of its basketball, soccer, handball,crosscountry and swimming teams.

At home, she is a YPG member, seeking to join the church’s technical team. She is also a member of the 30th Tema Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade where she plays the trumpet and occasionally the turner drum.
 
(Now tell me about the Jack-ress of all trade).

After all this, Lawrencia manages to find some free time for her self where she loves to watch TV.

She also likes to learn new things and how to get certain basic things done so she doesn’t have to rely so much on anyone.

Most at times, people see technical directors as the field of men. Lawrencia told us how a being a female technical director was like.

“With all honesty, it’s quite hard and gets tiring sometimes. Everyone sees any technical person to be more like erm…a sound god or something 

It brings so much expectation from everyone and sometimes I just feel so intimidated.
Well it has its positives though. In all its quite cool. I get to learn more too.” (Oh charley, 3ya relax give the lady wai)

When asked how she balances all this extra cirricular activities with her academics, she said, “I’d say it’s just by Grace. It requires extra physical energy and I thank God through my sports I have a lot of that. I hardly get free times though. I remember about a semester ago…I had to wake up extra early to train…rush to class afterwards…go back to train in the afternoon or probably play a game during the interhalls sports competition. Since most games ended late, I had to rush back, wash down, go for our weekly meetings, setup and setdown if necessary, go back to bed, and the cycle continued all week long.
But I got quite used to the trend and was getting along just fine.

So yes, Grace, discipline, dedication and hard work  make it possible to balance them.
And some help too from our technical members especially the Assistant Director.
I’m not left alone to setup or setdown and I’m very grateful to them.”

Her little message to YPG members is that we should transfer or take the energy we exhibit in NUPS-G during school back home and we’ll see the change we want or expect.

At home we mostly leave everything to our executive to do or struggle with and that isn’t too nice.

Lawrencia worships at Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption Congregation, Tema, Community 9 in the Tema North District.

A six-member Youth Delegation from the Ga Presbytery participated in the 1st Disciple Making Global Partners Discipleship Conference held at the Anagkazo Ministry and Bible Training Centre from Tuesday, 4th to Thursday, 6th February, 2020.

The theme for the Conference was “Go make disciples of all nations.”

The Conference was organized to equip church leaders to engage actively in what is undoubtedly the core mandate of the Church, DISCIPLESHIP.

The Maim Speaker, Rev. Dr. Jung Hyun Oh of the SaRang Church in Seoul, South Korea, revealed the discipleship keys which has opened great doors to help grow the church and also make her healthy.

Ghanaian discipleship success stories, mainly from the Legon Interdenominational Church (LIC), were shared. These hanged on Discipleship Training and Leadership Training (DT/LT) and using the Inductive Bible Study approach.

The conference also focused on how small groups can be used as effective tools for church growth.

The Youth Delegation are almost through with a roadmap for implementation which will be presented to the Chairperson of the Presbytery on Monday, 10th February, 2020 for action to be taken.

It is our prayer that this conference will bear fruits in our Presbytery and beyond.

The Young People’s Guild of the Ashaley Botwe District have successfully held a Handover Ceremony to begin a new administration for the District Guild.

The Francis Frempong-led administration handed over the mantle to the Naa Adoley-led administration in a ceremony that was held at the Ebenezer Congregation on Sunday, 2nd February, 2020.

In the Handing Over note, Bro. Francis Frempong chronicled the journey of the four-year-old District which was was carved mainly out of Madina, La and Teshie in 2015.

He employed repetitions beautifully in his speech and remarked in his conclusion, “Let it be said….” before enumerating some positives in his administration and some expectations for the new team.

He also touched on the good works of his team in terms of general administration, finance, evangelism and social works in the Ashale Botwe community.

The new District President, Sis Sandra Naa Adoley Addo delivered her acceptance speech and promised the commitment of her colleagues to the good work in the District.

“My fellow guilders, the task ahead is enormous, and a lot is expected from us. [This] calls for hard work, diligence, faithfulness, team work, from all of us,” she said.

She continued: Henry Kaiser [once] said, “I make progress by having people around me who are smarter than I am and I listen to them. And I assume that everyone is smarter about something.” We are therefore calling on all of you: members, all past and present executives , ministers, leaders and all individuals to rally round this goal. Let’s support one another in whatever way we can. Our monies, talents, gifts, prayers, commitment, love, and our little smile will help us all accomplish what God intends to do with these newly elected executives,” the new District President remarked in her speech.

Citations were presented to the outgoing Council Members.

The District CLAN Convener, Rev. Michael Sowah-Nortey, the Chairperson of the Credentials Committee, assured the new executive to be diligent with the work of God and He will bless them.

The Superintendent asked the new executive to reflect on their call into leadership at such a time in the Guild’s life and called on them to work hard to build the Guild instead of priding themselves in the positions they have been elected or appointed to serve in.

“Leadership is not about positions… It is about working!!!” the Superintendent said.

Fear no fall
You who have fallen
For an outstretched hand lay in wait-

That you may be gently drawn out of the shadowless stark dark dungeon.

Fear no fall
You who have fallen
For fear is for the weak-
And to have gotten to this state is not to show you are just meek,
But that your strength is as of a double that of a hungry lion-

Commentary (Part 1)

I have always been afraid-
Afraid of falling;
Backsliding from my faith-
That I may no longer look sanctimonious
Or have regard for the things I least thought I would trivialize in my Christianity.
I have once been afraid-
Afraid of losing my dear ones;
My family and those who cater for me-
“What will I do if I hear my mom passed away?”
“How will I cope with the little ones left in my care?”
A couple of times I have been afraid-
Afraid of not making it in life;
Afraid of being ridiculed by my friends
Because I did not end up with a rich guy, live in a fine house in one of the richest neighbourhoods, with the finest of cars and having to change to the latest brand of iphones like the ticking of the second hand clock.
So I kept being afraid-
Of what people will think!
They’ll point fingers at me and say, “look, she struggled through life, hustling and bustling, working out her fingers and yet has nothing to show off”. Exactly the things that worry the youth of today-
So fear crippled every fibre of my being, paralysed every muscle of my ability and tore down the veins of hope that pumped faith into my heart and kept me at peace.
I feared to fall,
But even though I thought I was standing, everything in me had fallen.
My knees had wobbled and given way to my fragile and sickly body, which had been robbed off life- The life God had given me!
Job said, “what I fear most has come upon me”-
It is like running and running, only to realize you are running into the arms of the one you are running from.
Fear!
Simple as it sounds, but strong enough to bring mighty men down!
If only we could understand that Christ fell several miles down just to bring us up with him-
Then we would know that the power of fear in our lives is a lost battle.
Why do you fear when the triune God of power, love and self-control has given you the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit?!
Fear no fall,
Fear no mishap,
Because Christ already fell for you.
On the cross, he was deemed a failure, probably ridiculed by His mates.
They pointed fingers at him and said, ”Look he struggled to be king, and yet he has nothing to show for it but a disfigured body”
And that is why I beat chest boldly and shake myself out of every fearful stupor. Be anxious for nothing, child of God. Fear will only cause you to die, even though Christ has made you alive.

Stanley: 🏃🏃🏃

Me: I wanted confirmation. So they were lying to me

Ermmm, once, I was running to board a trotro and the mate shouted rudely at me, “Hurry up, hurry up!!!” The way I blasted him erh🙈

Anyways….What is the one thing you are most proud of in your forty something years on earth😂

Stanley: Taking a decision to serve God
This is actually not a cliché… At a point, I told myself it was time to serve God in His church and since then (2008/2009), the work has been coming and I’m enjoying it

Me: Nice. What does a normal day look like for you

Stanley: So I wake up at 4 for my Quiet Time and morning readings… Work is officially from 8am to 4pm but I leave the office almost always after 9 cos I spend the alone moment after work to catch up with time spent on other non-office stuff predominantly, YPG stuff. I’m not a big fan of routines so…..

Me: Oh ok

Stanley: But I can say that social media takes an integral part of my life. I do almost everything on Social Media. I’ve built families on here and like to connect with them

Me: I see.
So what does it take to build a solid relationship with God?

Stanley: It takes grace ALONE!

Paul says, as we have received Him, we should also walk in Him
How did we receive Him?
By grace through faith!
So I believe grace ALONE can teach a man how to build a relationship with God.
I struggled in my early days to force a relationship with God but it didn’t work.
Until I told God to help me.
The building process is now about God helping me to live His life.
I don’t know but I’m now at a place where fellowship with God flows from within…
I know and experience God and His power without all the things I struggled to do in the past

Me: Definitely saw u in Mirror [the Christian Fellowship of the University of Ghana Business School] back in UGBS but I didn’t really see you as really involved in NUPS-G. Why was that? Any reasons

Stanley: I was in the Deliverance Team [back in NUPS-G] but as you rightly said, I was not very active.
In the year I entered UG, I was elected Branch Secretary of the YPG.
So every weekend and Monday I had to go home for one assignment or the other.
I was the District JY President, the anchor of my Congregation’s Prayer Tower, an integral Mission & Evangelism member…..
All these were tasks waiting for me back at home and I knew I was needed at home more than on campus. Later I was elected Branch President and the tasks doubled so NUPS-G became… errrmmm…..nvm. All my deliverance team leaders, Osofo Leonard, Osofo Lydia, etc…saw me as a Jonah running away from God’s call to Nineveh😂

Me: What are your plans and expectations in this new year of your life

Stanley: I want to grow in grace.
I want to enter into full time ministry
I want to build capacity for Christian Youth Development
I want to amass wealth by all godly means to push the kingdom of God
I want to mentor as many people into leadership in the Guild.

Me: Finally finally
On a scale of 1 to 10, how tough were my questions😂😜

Stanley: That’s a full score from me

Me: That will be all the questions for this birth day. We thank God for your life✊🏽

Unlike Jesus and His Father who are one, I and my father are not one. Aside the facts that my old boy laboured during night duties and waisted his time (pun intended) to produce me, and that we share the same name, we are always on the opposite ends of any pole.

He supports Accra Great Olympics, I support Accra Hearts of Oak;

He is a Newcastle fan, I’m a Barça fan; and

He likes Cristiano [Ronaldo], I adore [Lionel] Messi.

We’ve had heated arguments about these rivalries but in recent times our arguments have mainly been on Messi-Ronaldo mainly because both Newcastle and Olympics have been beans in recent years leaving us with these phenomenal players and their GOAT statuses.

According to my father, if I had seen Mohammed Polo play, I would never say Messi is the GOAT and that Polo is the dribbling magician, more skillful than Messi, bla bla bla….

Well, just to satisfy my conscience, I recently watched some clips of Mohammed Polo on YouTube and I must confess that Polo is good, and so are these players: Tawric Jibril, Quincy Owusu Abeyie, and Eric Bekoe. End of argument!

He prefers C. Roo because to him, Cristian(o) has worked so hard to get where he is and that Messi is just shining on the benevolence of a merciful God.

I’ve always explained to him that it is not of our hard work that we have been chosen and that Messi makes playing this game of life effortless.

But more frankly, I think the conclusion should be that Cristian(o) must admit that he is where he is today because of Messi.

“As a Cristian(o) [fan], you must thank God for Messi every blessed day because without Messi, [a] Cristian(o) cannot survive this new life. It is because of Messi that [a] Cristian(o) is not consumed by his complacency or self righteousness,” I once told my old.

“You are right, my son,” he admitted rather surprisingly. “I can’t imagine a football era where there’s a Cristian(o) without Messi to ensure he’s always on track?” my father added.

In actual fact, we all need Messi to understand this Cristian(o) life better; that it is only Messi who makes a significant difference, together with his friend, Grace.

Without Messi, there’ll be no Cristian(o)!!!

Unfortunately for many people, they’ve tried so hard to downplay the significance of Messi in this game of life merely because Messi hasn’t moved to another club. But that’s exactly how Messi works; [God’s] Messi changeth not! I repeat, [God’s] Messi changeth not!

Once Messi changes, Cristian(o) is out of the race for the GOAT determination.

Fortunately for me, I’m enjoying the unchangeable Messi of God kind courtesy my acceptance of the proposal of my bae, Grace.

Can you confidently say same?

On Saturday, June 17, 1972 at a Presbytery Emergency Meeting held at the Osu Presbyterian Secondary School, the Ga Presbytery Guild was created out of the Ga-Adangbe Presbytery.

This was as a result of a Synod decision to split the Ga- Adangbe Presbytery into two for the purpose of administrative convenience to the church.

The two newly appointed Presbytery Youth Workers, Rev. E. O. Tettey (Ga) and Rev. E. V. Mate (Dangbe Tongu) were in charge of that meeting to oversee a successful split and creation.

Thus, the Ga Presbytery Guild was birthed.

The Ga Adangbe Presbytery, hitherto one of the largest Presbyteries, covered the coastal belt between Accra and Ada (72 miles) and stretched to Akuse (54 miles); compromising 35 active branch guilds – 25 in Ga, and 10 in the Dangbe, with nearly 2,000 members.

The branches that made up the Ga Presbytery also were: Accra, Adabraka, Apenkwa, Accra New Town, Chorkor, Lartebiokoshie, Kaneshie, Mamprobi, Abeka, Alajo, Adabraka Official Town, Odorkor, Weija, Osu, South Labadi Estate, La, Teshie, Nungua, Madina, Kpone, La Bawaleshie, Tema II, Tema North and Tema Manhean.

Bro. Bro. Slyvanus Lamptey became the first Superintendent of the Guild.

Within a year of the creation of the Presbytery, two dormant branches at Abokobi and Bawaleshie were actively revived; and as many as 15 off-springs were found and out-doored in succession over the years.

By 1982, the Ga Presbytery could boast of 41 branch Guilds, the highest in all the 10 Presbyteries forming the National Guild of the Presbyterian Young People’s Guild.

The branch Guilds were grouped into three districts namely Accra West, Accra East and Tema Districts under the canopy of the Presbytery Executive Committee.

It is worth mentioning that some branch Guilds built places of convenience, Church Halls, presented acoustics, pulpits, altar chairs, including tidy sums of money to their Churches, while others actively engaged in clean-up campaigns, communal labour, farming and rural development programmes.

Another decision of the General Assembly to create a Ga West Presbytery meant the Presbytery Guild was bound to have a change in structure both in number and geography.

In 2016, a new Presbytery, the Ga West Presbytery with its Presbytery Head as Kaneshie was curved out of the Ga Presbytery. This therefore further reduced the number of Districts in the Presbytery from 32 to 25.

Prior to the split, the Ga Presbytery YPG had Thirty Two (32) Districts and One (1) Mission Field spanning across the length and breadth of Accra and Tema and can boast of can now boast of 293 Branch Guilds and 18,368 Guild members.

The list is as follows: Abeka, Abokobi, Accra Central, Accra New Town, Adabraka, Adabraka Official Town, Adentan, Apenkwa, Ashaiman, Dansoman, Dzorwulu, Fafraha, Gbawe, Ga West Mission Field, Haatso, Kaajaano, Kaneshie, Kwashieman, La, Larterbiokoshie, Madina, New Achimota, Nima, North Kaneshie, Nungua, Osu, Oyibi, Sakumono, Tema 1, Tema 2, Tema Manhean, Tema North and Teshie.
That is how far the Ga Presbytery Guild has come from three (3) Districts in its formation stage.

The split necessitated a bye-election for some Executives of the Presbytery Guild who were affected by the split, namely Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Organiser. In September 2016, a by-election was held at Osu Shalom and Norbert Schall, Paa Kwasi Ansong and Philip Aye-Darko were elected into office as Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Organiser respectively.

Our first #TerrificGuilder for 2020

MEET NANICE MARFO, THE JILL OF ALL TRADES AND THE MASTER OF ONE!

The Ga Presbytery YPG Editorial Team was privileged to interview one of the names that will soon rise and possibly end up on Forbes list of influential business women; Nanice Marfo.

Nanice is a member of the Tema community 9 Presby (Redemption Congregation) and hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region. She is currently the CEO of Shoes Hub & the General Manager of Dash Delivery Service. But Nanice has had her fair share of ups and downs to get to where she is now.

“My life has mostly been faced with pleasant challenges. I say pleasant because, I always see myself better at the end of any trial I have gone through. I have never been less busy in life, there is always something on my plate I’m dealing with in terms of work. And that is what has shaped my life”, she said.

Whilst in University, Nanice did an internship with a bank, something she had always dreamed of, but during that period she discovered that wasn’t what she really wanted to do. So in second year, she started a business hoping that someway somehow she will work for herself after school. She began selling Christian Literature, switched to ladies shoes during her national service then to a popcorn business after National service. She branded her trade and sold popcorn in the hearts of the Madina station. After doing it for about three months however, she had to switch back to the shoes. She decided to put all the sales and business skills she had acquired over the period to make selling shoes better and more professional than it was.

Nanice ventured the unknown and kick-started her business with about 30 pairs which is 20pairs more of than what she had started with during national service. Gradually business picked up and she started delivering shoes with her backpack, with the support of a friend and of course by means of ‘trotro’. They defied all odds, showing unwavering persistence to make the business work. Well, it did work. And after a while their rented single room couldn’t house the shoes anymore.

For another two years, she rented an extra room to solely house the shoes, put together her earnings and rented a shop. Well the story goes on and on, but the shoe business has metamorphosed into ‘Shoes Hub’, whilst Nanice has added on other businesses including the Dash Delivery Services. She currently has over five employees and as she would put it, “the business has been moving from one point to the other by the grace of God”
